A practical plan may involve one roommate agreeing to lights-out or study blocks, using the library for focused work, keeping gaming devices outside the study area or attending morning classes with a friend until the sleep cycle stabilises.
Study problems are often a task-switching problem

Treatment should preserve the need for competence while rebuilding it elsewhere: manageable study goals, exercise progression, a project, work experience or another activity where effort produces visible progress.
Parents need a different role once the student is an adult
Parents can offer support, set conditions around money and discuss health or academic concerns, but constant monitoring can push an adult student toward secrecy. - Attend the first scheduled class even after a poor night rather than sleeping until afternoon.
- Move difficult study to a library or other device-light environment.
- Use one planned social-media window rather than continuous access.
- Protect a consistent wake time across weekdays and weekends.
- Book counselling if anxiety, depression or attention problems are significant.
- Tell one trusted friend what change you are trying to make.

How colleges and families can tell whether the plan is working
Use outcomes that matter to student life: attendance, assignment completion, sleep before morning classes, participation in practicals, spending, social contact and the ability to study without continuous checking. If the college has counselling or mentoring support, the student can use it to create accountability without turning parents into remote supervisors.
